Day 3: San Francisco

Big day today in San Francisco...

Good long walk to the wharf to catch the ferry to Alcatraz.  Just as well we had pre-booked tickets, else the next available seat was in 2days time!  Alcatraz was very interesting and very picturesque.

Back in time for lunch and came across the Hard Rock Cafe which suited Jo just fine for a birthday lunch.  Lunch was great (too much to eat, again!) and the staff surprised Joi with a birthday sundae and a staff quartet sang Happy Birthday.

Then hired bikes and rode to the Bridge.  Route was a bit trickier & harder than we were led to believe by the slick-talking bloke at the bike hire joint, but we got there eventually.  The ride across the bridge was a little nerve-wracking because of the narrow pathway and restrictions due to bridge maintenance work.  Nevertheless we made it across safely and eventually arrived in the bayside village of Solsaledo on the north side of the bay.  There were LOTS of tourists doing the same ride as us, and we had to wait our turn to catch a ferry back to the city, eventually arriving back with the bikes after 6:30pm.

We caught a cable car back to our hotel, grabbed a little dinner (Zac had an 18-stack of pancakes!) and we hit the sack ready for a very early start tomorrow (Tues) for our flight to Denver via Phoenix.

Luv from all of us....

Grant.

  1. Sounds like you are having a great time, although you better keep riding those bikes if you're going to keep eating 18 stack pancakes!! Hope you had a good birthday, Joanne. I have sent about 3 blogs but they have not worked - Caitlin has now got me into this so I hope it works!! Saw your video on the football - can't believe there could be any fans more feral than Collingwood! (Dane Swan won the Brownlow, by the way). Geelong & Colllingwood in the GF boring!
I am enjoying my holidays though they are not half as exciting as yours! Take care, Narelle

  2. Gidday Schuies.
    Happy Birthday again Jo.
Sounds rather cliché but "we wish we were there".
The confirmation went well and the weather was superb for the after lunch.
I think you may need to speak to David Zweck on your return 'cause I reckon I saw him milk your van before he took it back to your place!! :)
All good here other than the envy.
Jenny Graig said she could squeeze in a few diet plans with a family consession when you get back. Remember, eat as much as you like, just don't swallow and you won't put on any unwanted weight. Take care, PMc, Sonic + Keely
