Day 2: San Francisco

This is the second day that we are in San Francisco and we went to the Oakland Raiders vs New York Jets football game. We went to Lefty o' Doul's for breakfast and Mum had scramble eggs, dad had a California omelette, Tom had a Belgian waffle and so did Zac and I. We made our way to the Bart and hopped on the train and went to the raider and jets game. The train goes under water in a tunnel and your ears pop when you are under there. When we got to the coliseum  we bought our tickets and the girls went to the right lane and the boys went to the left lane to get in. The raiders vs jets game went well and we all had cracker jacks caramel popcorn with roasted peanuts and a lemonade that was the small size but was huge. After the game we went shopping in Westfield shopping center and we all bought a pair of vans except dad and Tom. Zac bought vans that are green, mum bought vans that are red and I bought vans that are checkered pink and yellow. We got back to the hotel and started to watch Get Smart on the t.v.
We are all going to bed now
Bye Lucy

Addendum by Dad:  the football game was a BIG eye-opener for all of us.  Talk about being dropped right into the middle of working class American football fans!  The Oakland Raiders fans are like a bigger, noisier, meaner, blacker version of the Collingwood fans.  Thank goodness there were almost no NY Jets fans at the game, else it might have got ugly.  The crowd was boisterous, alternating between rampant chants of "RRRRAAAAIIIIDDDDEEERRRSSS!!" and "F@cK the Jets" as we waited in line to get into the Coliseum (that's USA spelling). Everyone (and I mean everyone) was wearing the black & white Raiders' colours, except for Tom who was wearing his green hoodie.  Green was the colour of the New York Jets and after some comments from the crowd, he promptly took off the hoodie and hid it out of sight for safety's sake.

Entering the stadium involved separating into male & female queues (or mobs) and filing slowly through the line of security staff who frisked everybody upon entry. Behaviour was being watched closely by a stack of Tactical Response Team police, carrying guns, bulletproof vests, battons and tasers.  I don't know who was the scariest; the fans or the cops!

Anyhow, it was a great adventure and I'm sure it'll stick in everyone's memory for years to come.  Isn't that what holidays are about?

Early rise tomorrow to visit Alcatraz and the GG Bridge...
