Day 9: Manitou Springs to Evergreen (near Denver)

Grant:  Slept well after a BIG meal Mexican meal last night.  Peaceful and civilised rise thismorning before setting out northward toward Denver; destination Red Rocks Amphitheater.
Fast drive up highway with a 120km/h limit kept lane-minder Jo gripping the handrest in the passenger seat firmly, before arriving at Red Rocks.  Visitors' Center done, we walked down the seats just in time to hear the announcement that they were closing the amphitheater for the day so they could finalise setup for a concert tonight. Good thing we didn't arrive later in the day; we would have been very disappointed! The band performing tonight is called "Further" and, based on the crowd camped outside and arriving to the venue, they are some sort of hippie, tie-die grass-smoking band.
After Red Rocks, we had another short windy drive through the foothills to our hotel in Evergreen, just west of Denver. In search of a late lunch, we headed straight for WalMart where we found a Subway and did a little shopping.  Lucy found a great Cleopatra costume which she'll be able to wear for her Roman Day next year in Yr5.
We all had a swim in the hotel pool to burn off steam and get refreshed.  After two quick loads of washing, we improvised with hot dogs & apple pies for tea in the motel room before packing for our flight to New York in the morning.  Just realised that we've got a 20 mile drive across the city during peak hour tomorrow to get to the airport on the other side of town.  Woo hoo!
Grant :-)
